Recently, it has been known through several media reports that President Donald Trump has been nominated this year to the Nobel Peace Prize by the Norwegian parlamentarian Christian Tybring-Gjedde. Tonight, I have read this piece in the Atlantic stating: “End the Nobel Peace Prize. The Trump nomination shows that peace had its chance, and blew it“.

For those of you who are afraid that President Trump may win: Be not afraid. President Trump will never be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Below, I will explain why!

First of all, you should know that many people are nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize every year. The total number of nominations is typically around 200.

Further; to win the prize, each of the 5 members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee must agree. In 2020, this includes Thorbjørn Jagland, Henrik Syse, Berit Reiss-Andersen, Anne Enger and Asle Toje. Note: Olav Njølstad (included in the picture below) works as the secretary and is NOT part of the 5-member committee.

These 5 guys are familiar for most Norwegians (e.g. Jagland has been a Norwegian Prime Minister representing the Labour Party, while Anne Enger as a leader of the Centre Party played a major role when Norway decided to NOT enter EU in the 1990’s). In my mind, the first four of these guys will NEVER support a Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump (I will not bother you with political arguments, just trust me!). The only exception may be Asle Toje, but nevertheless, that means President Trump will never win the Prize. It’s as simple as that. To illustrate with an example most Americans will understand: The likelyhood for the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee to award President Trump the prize may be compared with the likelyhood of the GOP supporting socialism.

Finally, some comments about Christian Tybring-Gjedde. He is indeed not a regular politician, instead he may be compared with Ted Cruz in the way that he is pretty controversial. Tybring-Gjedde typically says things out loud that most people will never dream to even think.

To conclude: Norway hates President Trump, like the rest of the World. We all look forward to November 3rd, when Joe Biden will win the 2020-Presidential election and thereafter become the 46th President of the USA.
